Childhood issues can have many lasting and damaging effects on our adult lives. Inner Child Therapy allows for a therapist and patient to access these past issues, and process them in a healthy way. It is widely accepted that trauma and negative messages from our past if not addressed can impact our present and future attempts at recovery.
Therapies Used for Inner Child Healing
Group and individual therapy includes the identification of the origins of feelings of shame, fear and “not good enough” or inadequacy. Through the exploration of these feelings and how they have paralleled our development, we begin to understand why we have turned to the use of mind altering substances as a maladaptive or unhealthy coping strategy.
Through the group therapy process clients learn how to self soothe, and identify irrational beliefs. Group members learn how to establish inter-dependence, improve self confidence and increase motivation for long term sobriety.
