What Are The Unique Benefits Of Our Individual Addiction Therapy?

Benefits Individual Addiction Therapy-New Beginnings Recovery CenterAt New Beginnings Recovery Center (NBRC), we know that utilizing multiple addiction treatment options provides the greatest chance at recovery. This is exactly why we provide several treatment methods to our clients.

One of these options is our individual addiction therapy where clients can discuss issues based on their needs with a therapist in one-on-one counseling sessions. This type of therapy is used in combination with the group therapy offered through our Intensive Outpatient Therapy Program (IOP) and is an important component of any drug or alcohol addiction or mental health treatment program.

Benefits Of Our Individual Addiction Therapy

The benefits of our individual addiction therapy include:

Knowledgeable And Caring Counselors

All of our staff therapists have extensive backgrounds in addiction therapy. We treat each and every client with the personable respect that they both need and deserve.

Male And Female Therapists

We understand that some of our clients may have a preference about the gender of their counselor, and for that reason we have both male and female therapists on staff to make our clients as comfortable as possible.

Flexible Scheduling

Individual addiction therapy sessions can be scheduled around our clients’ work, school or family responsibilities.

Multiple Issues Treated

Our individual counselors are available to help clients with the following issues or concerns:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Domestic violence
  • Parenting issues
  • Sex addiction
  • Sexual orientation
  • Substance abuse
  • Trauma

And we offer couples therapy, family therapy and marriage counseling (one or both partners) to help heal any past or ongoing issues.

Individual Mental Health Therapy For Addiction

Individual mental health therapy for addiction can be beneficial when working with clients who have a dual diagnosis (those who suffer from depression, bipolar disorder, or other mental health disorder in addition to drug or alcohol addiction). A client can work one-on-one with their own counselor to successfully work through their specific issues effectively.

Individual therapy is a necessary part of addiction treatment recovery. In a one-on-one session with a professional and caring therapist, a client has privacy to share his or her history with someone they can get to know and trust. At times, clients feel reserved or uncomfortable about expressing personal issues or past traumas in a group therapy setting. Clients can build a relationship with their counselor that creates an atmosphere of trust, which allows the client and the counselor to dig into the underlying causes of addiction and take the time to work on specific issues and concerns.

How Do I Know If My Loved One Is Addicted To Drugs?

No one wants to think that their loved one has a problem with drugs or alcohol. Even if you begin to suspect there may be an issue, your first instinct may be to push your suspicions to the back of your mind and look for another explanation. There are signs that substance abuse may be an issue, and turning away from them will only allow the problem to grow and become more serious.

Signs Your Loved One May Be Addicted To Drugs

Here are some questions to ask yourself regarding your loved one’s behavior. The more “yes” answers you provide, the more likely that you are dealing with a substance abuse issue.

  1. Do they get cravings and urges to use their drug of choice?
  2. Are they unable to cut down or stop using on their own?
  3. Does your loved one take the drug in larger amounts than recommended/prescribed and/or for longer than recommended (in regards to prescription drugs)?
  4. Do they spend a large portion of their time obtaining, using or recovering from drug use?
  5. Have they given up opportunities to be with friends and family or work-related activities because of their drug use?
  6. Are they unable to perform well at work, school or at home due to drug use?
  7. Do they continue to use drugs even when it leads to problems in their relationships?
  8. Do they need to take more of the drug to get the effect that they want?
  9. Does your loved one experience withdrawal symptoms, such as nausea, body aches, nervousness or irritability, which are relieved by taking more of the drug?

How Do Drugs And Alcohol Make Anxiety Worse?

For a person living with an anxiety disorder, just getting through each day can be very challenging. Those with this mental health disorder can easily get wrapped up in their thoughts and worries of their personal safety, health, job, bills, etc. Since no one enjoys feeling anxious, it’s normal to want that feeling to go away and some people turn to drugs or alcohol in an effort to self-medicate. At New Beginnings Recovery Center, we treat addiction and anxiety together through our Florida mental health and substance abuse services.

How Using Drugs And Alcohol Can Make Anxiety Worse

Gazing-How Do Drugs & Alcohol Make Anxiety Worse-New BeginningsUsing drugs and alcohol can change the level of neurotransmitters in the brain like serotonin. These chemical changes can make anxiety worse after the initial “feel-good” effects of the alcohol have worn off.

A number of people turn to alcohol to relieve stress or “to unwind” at the end of a long day. If they are living with anxiety, they may be even more drawn to drinking or using.

Turning to alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety can be very dangerous. Someone who is taking medication for anxiety may find that using alcohol adversely reacts with the medication, causing dangerous side-effects including:

  • extreme drowsiness
  • decreased heart rate
  • decreased and difficulty breathing
  • medication and alcohol overdose

A person with social anxiety already finds dealing with situations where other people will be present extremely challenging. If that person gets in the habit of having a drink or two or using drugs before attending an event “to relax” instead of getting psychological treatment to learn tools to deal with the anxiety, it’s likely they will start drinking more and more before going out. The more a person drinks, the more likely they will say or do something inappropriate in public. Having to apologize after the fact to friends, family members, or work colleagues for what happened the night before (or worse, trying to remember whether an apology is needed) is a certain way to increase anxiety.

Program Spotlight: Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment

Mental health disorders are common, especially for those with addictions. All clients seeking help from our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program offered here at New Beginnings Recovery Center start by undergoing an initial evaluation. Once the initial evaluation has been completed, they are given a personalized schedule for periodic visits to the center for ongoing treatment and consultation.

During the consultation, a client is seen by a psychiatrist to assess his or her current state. Some psychiatrists also provide medications or psychotherapy, as appropriate to a client’s specific treatment needs.

At New Beginnings Recovery Center, psychiatric clients are also seen at a frequency that takes into account the type and severity of their condition. A particular client may be seen on a daily basis, if they require that level of support, while another may only need monthly follow-up.
