Long Term Rehab: How Much Time Is Enough?

You may have read news reports of celebrities checking into facilities for a short-term treatment program of 28 day or so, and concluded that they have received all the care that they need to deal with a substance abuse issue. While we don’t know why a person chooses a particular treatment model, in some cases the decision to choose short-term rehab may be partially motivated by scheduling considerations or other factors.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) describes addiction as a “complex illness.” It is a brain disease that affects the circuits controlling motivation, reward, learning, memory, and the ability to control behavior. We know that people affected by addiction will continue to drink or do drugs, even when faced with negative consequences of their actions.

Since addiction is a chronic disease, simply getting someone to stop drinking or using drugs for a few weeks is not the same thing as treating the underlying factors and completing a comprehensive treatment program. The NIDA recommends long-term rehab for best results.

Long Term Rehab For Addiction

Partial Hospitalization Program

A 28-day partial hospitalization program (PHP) for drug and alcohol abuse, such as the one offered by New Beginnings Recovery Center, provides clients with addiction education, group and individual therapy. It also gives them a foundation for further treatment with us, which will allow them to address the many underlying issues that led to their addiction.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Once the 28-day PHP has been completed, clients can move into a 60 or 90-day intensive outpatient treatment option. This level of care involves clients living in our sober housing facilities. They receive 10 hours of group therapy and individual counseling sessions per week. In addition to these services, they also attend a 12-step program and take steps to obtain employment and work on their life skills.

Long Term Rehab Is The Best Chance At Lifelong Sobriety

When an addiction is severe or has been established over several years, it is unrealistic to expect that a person will be able to make a major lifestyle change and deal with the underlying issues within a short time. Long term rehab gives a client the best chance of reaching his or her goal of being able to maintain sobriety after leaving a treatment program.

New Beginnings Recovery Center offers several treatment programs to meet its clients’ specific needs.

Program Spotlight: Inpatient Partial Hospitalization Treatment Program

The New Beginnings Recovery Center inpatient treatment partial hospitalization program (PHP) is based on the premise of offering evidence-based therapies to clients while integrating their minds, bodies and spirits. To accomplish this goal, we use a combination of individual counseling sessions, group psychotherapy sessions and 12-step programs.

Clients who choose our inpatient partial hospital program can expect that their days will be very full and beneficial. The living environment at our facility is highly structured while clients are in daytime treatment to ensure that they get the full benefit of what we have to offer.

We understand that people who are new to sobriety need to find ways to fill the time they used to spend feeding their addiction. Our comprehensive program is designed to meet our clients’ needs and get to the root of their addiction during their stay with us.
