One of the features that New Beginnings Recovery Center offers clients in early recovery is the opportunity to stay in one of our sober living houses. Leaving a treatment program and transitioning to living in the community is a challenging time. Simply moving from one environment to the other without adequate support is not recommended or ideal since it usually doesn’t end in a favorable outcome.
What Is A Sober Living House?
Since drug and alcohol addiction is a chronic illness, a client goes into recovery during the treatment process. This is an ongoing process, as opposed to a person being “cured.” Choosing to go to a sober living house during recovery allows someone to live in a safe supportive environment when they are either trying to get back to work or school.

During the first few months that a client leaves treatment, he or she is particularly at risk for a relapse, since using the tools to manage stressors of everyday life learned during the program are still new. Having some extra support during the first several months after leaving treatment will greatly benefit someone making this transition.
How A Sober Living Home Works
Sober living gives clients a place where they can continue to focus on their recovery and have more independence than in a residential treatment program. They offer an affordable place to stay where residents must remain drug-and-alcohol free while working on their individual recovery plans.

At New Beginnings Recovery Center, sober living house residents must commit to staying at Foundations Sober Living (our sober living homes) for at least six months, attend a 12-step program under the guidance of a sponsor, and follow house rules, including abiding by specific curfews. They must also agree to do one of the following for the duration of their stay:
- Obtain employment
- Go to school
- Participate in volunteer work
- Go to an outpatient therapy program
Sober living homes are fully furnished and the cost of the stay in these facilities includes utilities. Residents buy and cook their own food. A resident manager lives onsite to provide assistance and oversee the day-to-day operations of the house. All residents know that random drug and alcohol tests will be conducted, and that they are required to pass in order to continue their stay.

What Are The Benefits Of A Holistic Approach To Treatment?
Someone who is addicted to marijuana will continue to use the drug in spite of negative consequences, such as poor performance in school, losing a job, or getting arrested. For some people, a single one of these events is a wake-up call to make some lifestyle changes and make different choices going forward.
For clients who are seeking treatment for an addiction to drugs or alcohol, the idea of being good to themselves is even more important this January. Since many addicts have a long-established pattern of abuse that likely damaged their personal relationships as well as their self-esteem, seeking
